The Benefits of Using a UL Listed Alarm Company
- UL serves as a third-party verification entity, verifying that the installing company meets UL's nationally recognized standards.
- Several local fire authorities, or "AHJs, require that all fire alarm systems be UL Certificated by a UL listed fire alarm company.
- Many insurance underwriters offer discounts for commercial and retail customers who install a UL listed security system.
We are a UL Listed Installing Company
Our company holds the following UL listings as an installation company:
- Central Station fire alarm Service.
- Local, Remote, Auxiliary, and Proprietary Supervising Station fire alarm service.
- Mercantile burglar alarm service.
- Bank/Vault burglary alarm service.
Central Station Fire Alarm Service
We are listed by UL as a local service-fire alarm company. This entitles us to issue UL certificates for fire alarm systems, certifying that the installation was done to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. In addition, the Central Station service certificate certifies that the fire alarm system is under contract for monitoring by a central monitoring station that also meets UL's standards for Central Station service, and that a contract is in place to provide testing and inspection services required by NFPA.
Local, Remote, Auxiliary, and Proprietary Supervising Station Fire Alarm Service
These categorizations are culled from NFPA, and describe service that is less stringent than Central Station service. The main difference is that none of the above listed services include requirements for contracted monitoring or test and inspection services. These types of services would mainly be required when requested by the building owner or their insurance company. Certification of these types of fire alarm systems still indicates, however, that the installation and service meet NFPA requirements for the system type certificated.
Mercantile Burglar Alarm Service
Mercantile burglar alarm systems encompass the protection of a mercantile premises, safe, vault, ATM, or night depository. These systems may or may not transmit signals to:
- A receiver at a police station or dispatch center.
- A Central Station that is UL listed for Burglar Alarm systems, Protective Signaling Services, or for Residential Monitoring Service.
The operation of a mercantile alarm system is under control of the owners or other parties interested in the property to be protected.
The certificate serves as evidence that the alarm service company (1) is listed as furnishing mercantile alarm systems; (2) is authorized to issue the certificate to the installation as its representation that the equipment is in compliance with requirements established by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc.; and (3) is subject to the Laboratories' field counter check program whereby periodic inspections are made of representative installation to check the correctness of certification practices.
The standard used to investigate mercantile burglar alarm equipment is UL365, "Mercantile and Bank Burglar Alarm System Units". The standard used for the installation and service of mercantile alarm systems is UL681, "Installation and Classification of Burglar and Holdup Alarm Systems."
Bank/Vault Burglar Alarm Systems
UL service for Bank or Vault alarm systems cover alarm installations for bank safes, vaults, ATMs, and night depositories. These systems may or may not transmit signals to:
- A receiver at a police station or dispatch center.
- A Central Station that is UL listed for Burglar Alarm systems, Protective Signaling Services, or for Residential Monitoring Service.
The certificate serves as evidence that the alarm service company (1) is listed as furnishing bank alarm systems; (2) is authorized to issue the certificate to the installation as its representation that the equipment is in compliance with requirements established by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.; and (3) is subject to the Laboratories field counter check program where by periodic inspections are made of representative installations to check the correctness of certification practices.
UL field inspections and tests of representative installations in the field are made to determine the correctness of installation of protective devices and wiring, quality of workmanship, operability of circuits, maintenance and extent of protection applied.
The standard used to investigate bank burglar alarm equipment is UL365, "Mercantile and Bank Burglar Alarm System Units" . The standard used for the installation and service of bank alarm systems is UL681, "Installation and Classification of Burglar and Holdup Alarm Systems".
