Fire / Security Technician - Greater Alarm, Roseville, CA

PURPOSE AND SCOPE
Under direct supervision from the Operations Manager, the Service Technician will provide outstanding customer service for our various commercial and residential customers. The Fire/Security Technician will work closely with the Installation and Engineering departments, Sale Consultants and company vendors. The Fire/Security Technician represents Greater Alarm throughout the workday and is expected to act professionally at all times. They are to provide exceptional customer service through meeting or exceeding the principles of Greater Alarm’s values and purpose statements.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Fire/Security Technicians are to provide support for all aspects of a system inspection and maintenance. This includes the proper running of wires, termination of devices per manufactures specifics, installation of control panels, and any other tasks necessary to facilitate the work being performed.
  2. Extensive knowledge of alarm, CCTV, access control, audio, and other related systems is necessary.
  3. Works closely with Supervisor to ensure an in-depth understanding of all Inspections, service and maintenance requirements are met.
  4. Works with all other service techs to help them to understand how to repair, trouble shoot and inspect all alarm, cctv, access, audio, and central vac systems.
  5. Takes care of all personal and GAC owned tools and material.
  6. Thorough understanding of GAC quality control manual.
  7. Performs clerical duties in support of the job, such as service tickets or written estimates.
  8. Handles all duties with accuracy and detail.
  9. Works on special projects as assigned by the Service Supervisor.
  10. Refers non-routine questions and inquiries to Service Supervisor.
  11. Attends GAC sponsored training classes to improve knowledge of installation techniques, equipment setup and programming.
  12. Develops good working relationships with other GAC employees as well as with the customer on the jobsite to promote goodwill and ensure a trouble-free project.
  13. Take part in the normal on-call rotation for emergency after-hours service.
  14. Meet or exceed the department goals for number of service calls completed per day. Provides regular reports as required by the Service Supervisor.
  15. Attends scheduled meetings to receive updates on current and future projects, new products, and any changes to GAC.
  16. Continually seeks opportunities for professional growth that improve the position of the employee and the company.
  17. Interacts with all departments within GAC in finding and solving problems which affects the overall profit of the company and prevent the company from meeting the values and purpose statement. 
  18. Performs related services as required.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education - High School diploma or equivalent.

Previous Experience
A minimum of four years of hands on experience in the alarm service or installation environment.

Special Skills and/or Desirable Qualifications

  • Must posses a solid working knowledge of troubleshooting, repairs and installation of alarm systems and associated ancillary devices/systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of various access control systems and closed circuit television (CCTV) systems required.
    Must be able to work during times of high work loads.
  • Use of digital volt/Ohm meter, telephone handset, and other electronic tools must be done in a competent and professional manner.

Language Skills – Strong written and verbal English communication skills a must. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability – Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be able to effectively deal with all problems arising from the management of several construction projects simultaneously. Must be able to work with a variety of people of all skill levels. Effective negotiation and excellent analytical skills. Strong time management, organizational and multitasking skills. Ability to plan each day while adapting to constant interruptions. Ability to maintain employee confidentiality and treat employees with respect at all times.

Math Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute percents and to develop and interpret bar graphs. Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings.

Computer Skills - Working knowledge of Windows XP and/or 2000; Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations – Must have a current California Drivers License and a favorable DMV Report, must be maintained at all times. Must have a current Alarm Company Employee registrations card issued through California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.

Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly/frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, equipment or controls and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. and work at heights up to 75 feet. The employee must be able to drive, sit, walk, stand, bend, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb and balance. Specific vision and abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Regular attendance is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to moderate.
